The Graphic Artists Guild is conducting a survey, perhaps the first of its kind, to learn the art buying community's perspective on working with illustrators. The Guild has recognized the changes in the illustration market over the past decades. The emphasis has steadily moved away fromcommission work and into second usage. Competition from clip art and/or royalty free imagery is also eroding our market. The illustration market has shifted from print into a combination of print and digital media. However, these are generalized observations. The Graphic Artist Guild foresaw a need for more exact information in the form of a survey and with this information, the Guild is hoping to open prosperous new venues for illustrators in the coming years. To this end, the Campaign for Illustration was created with an active committee to map out short and long term strategies to influence the illustration market in a positive manner.
