Subject: Conde Nast Retroactive Blanket Contract
Warning to Conde Nast Contributors & Potential Contributors!
Conde Nast is perpetrating a new “stealth contract” that secures rights to the artist’s work retroactively to August 1, 1994! Conde Nast contributors and potential contributors should be extremely careful before signing this contract as written! The first line of this “Artists Agreement,” which many recipients miss, says “As of 8/01/94, the Conde Nast Publications, Inc and (artist’s name) agree as follows:” This date should be crossed out and replaced with “As of the date herein executed,” etc. The contract itself is a more than usually egregious all-rights grab, and will be analysed in detail in the January/February issue of the Guild News. But there is no reason for any contributor to sign away rights to work already done for and paid by Conde Nast.
