The Authors Guild, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Dramatists Guild, and the Association of Authors' Representatives have announced the creation of the Authors Registry, designed to provide a central directory of authors and a simple accounting system for paying royalties to registered authors. The Registry should facilitate "per use" payments by publishers, who claim to be daunted by the prospects of paying out dribbles of royalties to multitudes of authors.
