Lloyd Dangle Elected President of the Graphic Artists Guild
December 17, 2001 | New York, NY
Effective January 1, 2002, Lloyd Dangle will succeed Jonathan Combs, as national president for the Graphic Artists Guild (Guild), UAW local 3030.
Dangle, a member of the Guild since 1995, has served most recently as the national vice president since 2000. Dangles most successful organizational effort has been to lead a five-year legislative and regulatory effort that resulted in the reform of California sales tax, as it is applied to the work of graphic artists and photographers.
A successful freelance cartoonist and illustrator for fifteen years, Dangle is the creator and a syndicate of the weekly political comic strip, Troubletown, that appears nationally in alternative and mainstream newspapers. His illustrations have been published internationally in a wide range of publications, books, and commercial projects.
Dangle began to volunteer at the Guilds Northern California Chapter in 1995 where he served as a membership chair. Later he was elected and served as Chapter President from 1997 to 1999. His other efforts include organizing a group of illustrators, the All Rights Refusniks, to educate colleagues on resisting and negotiating all rights contracts. He is a frequent speaker at schools, conferences, and art organizations on the subjects of artists' rights, copyright, contracts, tax issues and business practices. He also helped establish a Guild newsletter called The Contract Monitor, which analyzes and reports on industry contracts.
Dangle attended the University of Michigan School of Art where he graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in 1983. He resides in Oakland, California.
